A nurse who was 7 months pregnant, was slowly walking down the hallway pushing her medication cart. She grabs a hold of the wall and goes down to the floor. I rushed to her aid and she looks up at me and says, “I can’t do this anymore, they are killing us here. We are under constant stress and nobody cares. Nursing is not what I thought it would be, it’s ugly.”
The nurse delivered her baby the following week. I reached out to check on her and the baby. She was pleased to hear my voice and said, “Can you believe that you’re the only one that called?”
Nurses are constantly putting themselves and their unborn child at risk when not even our own nurse managers show that they care. We must remind them that they are still nurses and were once doing bedside care. Don’t be afraid, speak up and remind them who they are: NURSES!
