Nurse to Patient Ratio

Nurse to patient ratio must change. In most hospitals, nurses are getting 8 to 9 patients to manage in a shift not including discharges and admissions. In nursing homes I have seen up to 40 patients per nurse. What type of quality of care can a nurse provide to the patients. Would you want your loved one cared by a nurse that is overloaded with patients?
